Have a cup of Chamomile Tea with me :)

Angela Ryan

I don't care who you are, everyone has heard about Chamomile lol. It is one of the most studied and most safe herbs out there. Known for helping everything from anxiety to gas, it is really one of the most versatile herbs that I work with. In fact, Chamomile is one of the herbs that I keep on hand at any given time. Most of my products have chamomile in them. Most anything I do consists of chamomile lol. Why? I am glad that you asked! Let's take a look.

Chamomile comes in two different forms. You can get the Roman Chamomile or the German Chamomile. The Roman Chamomile has a more bitter taste while the German Chamomile tends to be more sweet. It actually has an apple like taste to it. For my products, I use the German Chamomile. One beautiful quality about it is that it can be grown pretty much anywhere and it is easy to keep alive. Thank God right? lol.

I know I have mentioned that it helps many things, so let's go further. Chamomile works as a nerve tonic. In simple terms, this means that it works directly with the nerve tissue to actually strengthen it. Instead of numbing or capping it improves the nerve tissue, which in turn helps alleviate issues such as anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, and insomnia. Furthermore, it works as a mild sedative. When I say sedative, it is probably not what you are thinking, so let me elaborate. As a sedative, it works to relax the nervous system and muscle tissue directly by nourishment. Chamomile normally won't make you out of it unless you drink a ridiculous amount. Studies have actually shown that chamomile works on the same part of the nerves that anxiety medication does, which is part of why it is such a great alternative. Furthermore, it contains several flavonoids one in particular being Apigenin which is directly catered to reducing anxiety. Due to the relaxing nature and anti-spasmodic nature it is also known to help all kinds of digestion and stomach issues such as gas, upset stomach, constipation, heart burn etc. Chamomile is a go to when it comes to menstrual cramps as well given its natural relaxation and anti-inflammatory properties. Aside from all that though, studies have shown that it can actually reduce tumor growth. Working as an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-spasmodic etc.. it works on so many different levels to help balance back out and protect the body.

The fun thing about Chamomile as well is that it is pretty much safe across the board. There have been so many studies on it determining its safety and uses throughout the years.. and by years I mean hundreds of years. Chamomile's use goes all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. It was used most commonly to help minor ailments such as headaches and wounds. Yes, it even helps heal wounds!

As I had stated above, I normally use Chamomile in all of my mixes, custom or not! Not only is it highly medicinal, but I also use it for flavor. A lot of times it can cancel out the bitter taste of roots in certain mixes. For me though, I think my favorite product that contains it is probably Brave and the Mad Hatter. Fun Fact: Alice (from Alice in Wonderland) drank chamomile tea :P. Because of how effective Chamomile is in treating anxiety, depression, insomnia, ADD, ADHD etc.. I absolutely adore it. So, if you are interested in seeing it in action, check out the Mad Hatter or Brave Tea/Tincture line in my store.. or almost anything else! LOL.
